Furniture Studio

The Furniture Studio embraces a broad range of craft and design practice, incorporating commission design and production ranging from small-scale production of furniture and objects to site-specific artwork for public and private spaces and custom interior fit outs.

With a focus on development of individual furniture ranges and exhibition pieces, the Studio is a place where exploration of materials, ideas and process leads to 3 Dimensional reality.

Associate artists training within the Studio develop their own approach and design sensibility. A busy professional development program, supported by 24 hour access to a fully equipped workshop, encourages Associates through the discussion of ideas, the sharing of information and the undertaking of challenges.

Associates experience all aspects of studio and commission projects, developing skills in design, costing, client liaison, tendering and manufacture while working with a variety of design techniques and materials, including timber, plastics, metal and textiles.

Glass Studio

The core of the Glass Studio is its training through production program which provides practical, vocational training orientated around design and production of glass objects.

Associates and staff work together to design and create corporate awards and gifts, custom one-off commissions, architectural work and small production runs.

Associates create their own production works while continually experimenting and developing work for exhibition.

Our training team comprises a group of skilled and committed glass artists, who work alongside Associates to assist with management, ideas and skills development and provide technical guidance and support. The Studio offers a terrific opportunity for hot glass craftspeople to learn via its program. Alongside vocational training in hot glass production, we also provide access for professional glass workers.

This community of working artists provides a valuable practical demonstration to the Associates, frequently including them in work opportunities and providing them with a path for further career development.

Ceramics Studio

The Ceramics Studio at JamFactory specialises in the design and production of tableware and other functional ceramics, as part of our own product range and as bespoke commissions for restaurants and other clients, utilising a range of production techniques.

In addition, the studio offers a range of short-course teaching options, as well as facilitating workshops and commissions to the wider public.

Individual studios are tenanted by artists working with ceramics who are able to avail themselves of state of the art facilities and the considerable national and international networks the JamFactory ceramics studio has established in over forty years of continuous activity. Current and Past JamFactory ceramics studio alumni have gone on to be involved in ceramics at the highest international level and the studio’s two year Associate program offers a real pathway to individuals wishing to establish their practice.

Jewellery and Metal Studio

Established in 1992, the Jewellery and Metal Studio is an incubator for emerging Associate talent offering fully professional design and creative services, spanning three main areas; design and manufacture of private, corporate and public commissions, research and development for collaborative studio products and exhibitions and educational programs that include the delivery of artist-led workshops.

The Creative Director and Associates work collaboratively in all areas of studio activity while also pursuing development of their own creative practice. A supportive environment encourages a diversity of skill and vision, allowing the Studio to embrace a full spectrum of contemporary practice in metal craft and design. Supporting projects that range from the intimate scale and personal associations of jewellery, to domestic interior objects, through to architectural scale public art and design works, the studio draws on a fund of specialist craft skill knowledge, matched with an in-house technical manufacturing capacity and a network of local industry contacts. The local, national and international community is involved via a range of initiatives. Our workshop program invites the local community to learn from, and engage with, contemporary craft practitioners.

Regular exhibitions present Associates to audiences and markets while raising their profile within the craft and design scene. National and international artist-residencies and visits provide creative inspiration and encourage exchanges of knowledge, ideas and experience.
