Team Glass Blowing

Engage in a live glass blowing demonstration and tuition. You will dip into the furnace and experience the process of making your very own paperweight or drinking glass. This program is perfect for social, corporate and school groups. Max 16 people.

Introduction to Wheel Throwing

Held in JamFactory Ceramics Studios, this course will introduce you to the techniques and skills required to throw clay on a potter’s wheel. You will cover various stages of ceramic making from shaping the object with the wheel, to firing, and glazing to make your very own object. This course is also suitable if you are familiar with wheel work, but would like to further develop your skills.

Intermediate Wheel Throwing

Introduction to Hand Building & Surface Decoration

Introduction to Silver Jewellery Making

Designed for the absolute beginner, this seven class course teaches you basic silver jewellery making skills such as sawing, filing, soldering, riveting, forming and roller embossing. You will design and make your own jewellery pieces including a ring and brooch or pendant. The course is held in JamFactory’s Metal Design Studio by skilled tutors enabling participants to learn jewellery making skills and techniques in a professional studio environment. All necessary materials are supplied; you may choose to purchase extra silver in addition to these.

Level 2: Silver Jewellery Making

This course is designed for students who have completed the beginner’s course or have prior knowledge of jewellery making. Improve your skills and learn new techniques including bezel stone setting, hydraulic pressing and bb making hinge mechanisms under the guidance of a skilled tutor in a professional studio.

Introduction to Enamelling

This specialised 2- class introduction workshop, which will allow you to learn and experience the basic process of enamelling. You will be shown the technique of enamelling through torch firing and the process involved including preparing the metal, firing, clean up and finishing and given time to experiment, design and make your own piece of jewellery. Some prior knowledge of jewellery making is required and all necessary materials will be provided.

Decorative Surface with Enamel

This 1-day workshop is designed to demonstrate the process of using liquid enamel on both jewellery and objects. It will provide students who have had experience with enamel to further improve on their skills and learn techniques.
Each participant will begin the day applying liquid enamel on a copper dish, followed with designing and making a pendant.
Addition decorative processes, including the application of wirework on enamel will be discussed and demonstrated. All materials will be provided.

Tutored Bench Access

These private classes tutored by jeweller and object maker Sylvia Nevistic are self-directed, for those who already have experience in jewellery making and would like to work on their own project with the help of a tutor.

Using the skills you have already gained, this will be an ideal time to concentrate on developing your own designs that may be a little more technically challenging. Sylvia will assist you with all technical aspects as well as new ways to generate designs. If you have attended the Beginners and Intermediate classes at JamFactory, then this class is suitable for you. Class sizes are limited to 6-8 people for more one on one attention.

Working with Wax
$295.00

During this private 2-class workshop run by jeweller and object maker Sylvia Nevistic you will be introduced to carving and manipulating wax, which will be sent off to industry to be cast using the lost wax casting technique. Once castings have returned, they will be cleaned up and turned into wearable pieces using traditional jewellery making techniques.

No previous jewellery experience is required for this class, but if you have some basic jewellery fabrication skills, this workshop will add to them and give you more practical and innovative techniques to create with metal, while also providing you with contacts and lots of tips and tricks for casting projects in the future.

There will be additional charges for the casting fee and the silver/metal that is used for your pieces, which is dependent on the metal price for the day.

Flush Stone Setting
$225.00

Flush setting is a method of setting a stone flush to the surface, where a fine ridge of metal is pushed over the edge of a stone. This private workshop run by jeweller and object Maker Sylvia Nevistic, starts with a demonstration of the techniques used in flush setting into a piece of copper. You will be instructed in the anatomy of a faceted stone, measuring, marking, drilling the housing and then setting the stone. After a bit of practice you will have a chance to set coloured stones into a supplied sterling silver signet ring that you may take with you. All materials are supplied including the stones (cubic zirconias) and silver ring.

Should you wish to set any other stones, please feel free to bring them along for discussion. The best size for this technique is 1.5mm-3mm, stones should be faceted and round, being at least 7 on the MOHS scale, ie: tourmalines, sapphires, diamonds, cubic zirconias etc.

PLEASE NOTE: This workshop is specialised and suited to the intermediate jeweller; previous experience in jewellery making is needed. It is not suitable for anyone who hasn’t learnt beginner’s jewellery techniques before.
